BILLINGS — A Billings couple is honoring their late dog with a major donation to the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter's future facility.

Steve and Missy Langlas lost their dog, Hank, after 13 years together. In his honor, the couple is pledging to fund the construction of "Hank's Place," a 2,500-square-foot wing of the yet-to-be-built Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter facility.

The new permanent home for YVAS will be built on 5 acres of land on Garden Avenue near the Yellowstone River. That land was also donated — a gift from the Waggoner family.

The new facility will feature large play yards, more natural lighting, training classes and adoption spaces.

The shelter is working to raise a total of $12 million before breaking ground, which is expected to happen in the fall of 2028.

YVAS left its longtime facility on Monad Road in September of last year after the city incinerator released meth-laced smoke inside the facility during a drug burn.
