Q2 Weather: The break from the heat is over... for now

BILLINGS — Some ups and downs in the temperatures, and in the chances of showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures heat up again Thursday, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. This will likely be the hottest day we will see for a while.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop over the mountains and foothills during the afternoon and evening, and could reach eastward to around the Billings area by late afternoon. Some storms could produce some small hail and gusty winds.

Overnight temperatures slip down mainly to the mid-to-lower 60s, we showers and thunderstorms decreasing during the evening.

A few strong to severe storms are possible in Southeast Montana Friday afternoon, with more widespread general showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. Expect some smoky haze as well.

Temperatures will be a little cooler each afternoon through early next week. By Monday, highs will be in the mid 70s to mid 80s.

Billings forecast:

Thursday… Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 96. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Thursday night… Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low near 68.

Friday… Mostly sunny and very warm with a high of 91. A 30% chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.
