Q2 Weather: Possible strong to severe storms Thursday

BILLINGS — A chance of strong to severe storms in the area Thursday.

A cold front is moving through the area from west to east Thursday afternoon and evening. Behind the front a few thunderstorms could be strong to severe, with strong wind gusts, hail and locally heavy rain all possible threats.

Before the front arrives, temperatures will warm into the upper 80s to low 90s with increasing afternoon clouds. There is the potential for gusty winds increasing before the front arrives.

Southeast Montana has the highest concerns for heavy rain, with some localized flooding possible.

This weather system will edge is way out of the area slowly Friday. Expect a big drop in temperatures, with Friday afternoon highs mainly in the 70s to around 80.

Billings forecast:

Thursday… A high around 92. Increasing afternoon clouds with the threat of strong to severe storms to the afternoon and evening.

Thursday night… A chance of showers and thunderstorms that could turn possibly severe during the evening. Turning mostly cloudy. Overnight temperatures at about 60.

Friday… A chance of morning showers or an isolated thunderstorm. Partly cloudy in the afternoon with a high of about 78.
