A big construction project will soon be underway on the Billings South Side.

The underpass at State Avenue and Sixth Street West and its surrounding intersections are going to be getting a makeover. The upcoming project will improve both traffic flow for vehicles, as well as pedestrians and bicyclists, according to the Montana Department of Transportation.

Improvements including new lanes, lights and signals., and there will even be a new drainage system installed to keep the area from flooding in bad weather. Construction is scheduled to start in the summer of 2022, but another part of the project is scheduled to take place in August.

The new Rise and Shine Mural for the Community will be painted by local artists Elyssa Leininger and a team of volunteers.
