BILLINGS — Billings was greeted with mostly sunny skies and very comfortable temperatures Wednesday- one could say we actually had fair weather at 2 p.m.
Our temperatures are mostly into the low to mid 80s in and around Billings.
Around the rest of the state, the temperatures are mostly into the 70s out west and back east. Billings and Sheridan are now just starting to get into the 80s.
Our thunderstorm outlook for Wednesday shows isolated showers and thunderstorms in the western mountains and down toward south-central and southeastern Montana.
Most of the heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to stay little farther south in Wyoming and into the Dakotas.
In fact, we expect to see the showers develop in the mountains first and then eventually come down onto the plains very late Wednesday night.
Right now, the Doppler radar and satellite imagery shows scattered showers and thunderstorms by Missoula. They’ll follow the jet stream into south-central Montana and up into the Beartooth and Crazy Mountains.
The high-resolution forecast shows Billings will be generally dry throughout the rest of the afternoon, but possibly right around midnight we could see showers move into the city.
After that, we're expecting a dry morning on Friday but again by Friday midnight could see some more light rain showers move through.
We expect those rain showers to stick around throughout most of overnight Friday night into Saturday morning with heavy showers and thunderstorms around 6 a.m.
Area temps continue to stay into the mid-80s, Thursday afternoon, then roll back down to the low 60s in the morning and back up into the low 80s about 2 p.m. Friday.
We will cool back down to 77 degrees on Saturday, thanks to a new cold front, then it’s right back into the 90s for Sunday through Wednesday.
