BILLINGS — Our attention turns to just how cold it can get.
Billings tied the record cold reading for Oct.10 at 16 degrees, and more records could fall early Friday. Readings in the single digits to low teens are possible, threatening records in Billings, Miles City and Sheridan, Wyo.
A clear to mostly clear night should allow the temperatures to drop substantially with a fresh snow on the ground. Friday will be sunny with generally light winds. High temperatures will be mainly in the 30s to low 40s.
Temperatures will continue to edge upward through Monday, hitting 40s to low 50s over the weekend. Overnight temperatures warm to the 20s to low 30s for the lower elevations.
Disturbance brings a chance of some rain showers Monday in higher elevation snow. But by Wednesday, fall temperatures return and highs will be hitting the 50s to low 60s.
Billings forecast:
Thursday night… Clear to mostly clear with a low at around 10.
Friday… Sunshine and a light Southwest wind. High around 39.
Saturday and Sunday… Sunny to mostly sunny with lows in the 20s to low 30s, and highs in the mid 40s to low 50s.
