Q2 Billings Area Weather: Severe weather threat Tuesday

BILLINGS — Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon and evening, especially in areas to the north and east of Billings. Larger hail, heavy downpours and frequent lightning are all possible, but wind could be the biggest culprit.

A strong squall line is possible across northeastern Montana during the afternoon and evening that will likely produce heavy rain and strong winds with large hail likely in some areas. A tornado is possible.

Temperatures will top off in the upper 80s to low 90s across Eastern Montana and northern Wyoming today. Sunshine early begins to warm up with increasing afternoon clouds.

Wednesday through Friday looks quieter, with highs upper 70s to low 80s Wednesday warming to the 80s to low 90s by Friday. The weekend hot dry with high temperatures mainly in the 90s lower elevations.

Tuesday… Mostly sunny and very warm with a high of about 88 strong to severe storms are possible during the afternoon and evening with heavy rain, large hail, and dangerous lightning possible.

Tuesday night… A slight chance of evening showers and thunderstorms. Mostly clear overnight with low around 57.

Wednesday… Sunny and mild with a high near 81.
