BILLINGS — The autumnal equinox means Monday is the official start of fall, but the weather holds out until later in the week to start to feel like it.
Monday will be a warm and dry day, with a highs in the mid to upper 70s. Expect a pleasant afternoon with sunshine and a light wind.
The big story Tuesday will be increasing winds. Much of the region will see 15 to 30 mph sustained winds with gusts to around 40. Tuesday morning starts in the 40s and 50s, and stays a bit cooler but still above seasonal averages with highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s.
Overall Wednesday is fairly quiet, with a mix of clouds and sun and seasonal temperatures. Lows will be in the 40s to low 50s, and highs will be mainly in the 60s to low 70s.
The cooling temperatures continue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with an increasing chance of rain each day. By Saturday, highs will likely be in the 40s with area rain showers and mountain snow.

Monday night… Increasing clouds with a low of about 56.
Tuesday… Mostly sunny with a high around 74 winds increase in the afternoon to 15 to 30 miles an hour with gusts as high as 40 mph.
