MISSOULA — The U.S. Forest Service confirmed one of the nine killed in Sunday morning’s mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio was a former tour guide at the Smoke Jumper Center in Missoula.
According to USFS Northern Regional Press Officer Dan Hottle, Megan Betts obtained the 6-week internship through the Student Conservation Association program. She was in Montana from about the middle of May to July.
In a late Sunday afternoon news conference, Ohio officials said the 22-year-old Betts was among those shot by her brother Connor Betts, the suspect in the shooting.
According to the woman's Facebook page, she studied Biological Sciences at Wright State University.
Hottle says the U.S. Forest Service sends its deepest condolences.
