HELENA — Haunted houses and barns are a popular attraction this time of year.
Although you may think you could sprain an ankle while running from a zombie, or trip and fall when you lose sight of a scary witch, many times it's the actors, themselves who sustain injuries.
Spring Meadow Resources Director James Bissett says, this does happen at their haunted barn in Helena.
"You know that happens, and that's a natural reaction. I mean, definitely, if I was to come around a corner and someone jumped out (at) me with a mask on, you better believe, ya, they're probably going to be socked right between the eyes," says Bissett.
Bissett says they take all safety measures they possibly can.
The fire marshal inspects the barn before it even opens. There is safety lighting that can be turned on at any moment to light up the entire barn. There's also lighted pathways, and workers who walk around the barn and monitor any suspicious activity.
Another important measure James requires is for the actors and actresses to keep a safe distance.
"They know that, they try to maintain that distance to where it doesn't happen, and that's what we always try to push whenever they're working in the barn is to maintain a certain amount of personal space, to where in the event if something does happen, you are far enough away that they aren't going to hurt you," he added.
You can visit the haunted barn and Spring Meadow Resources Friday or Saturday from 7-10 p.m. Tickets start at $10 for adults, all proceeds go to supporting the populations Spring Meadow Resources serve throughout the Helena area.
