A Missoula police officer was involved in a Wednesday morning shooting on the city's northside.

The Missoula Police Department responded for a report of a disturbance at the Hollywood Trailer Court at North Russell and Cooley streets around 10:30 a.m.

Missoula PD spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh said in a media briefing that the man was uncooperative and officers learned he had a firearm.

The officers engaged in lengthy dialogue with the male and ordered him several times to drop his weapon and at one point, shots were fired and the man was injured, Welsh stated in a news release.

The man -- whose name has not yet been released -- was taken to a Missoula hospital with unknown injuries. Welsh said no officers were injured in the exchange.

Due to the involvement of Missoula police officers, Interim Chief Mike Colyer has requested the assistance of the Montana Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigation.

We will have more information on this developing story as it becomes available.
