A Virginia man was struck and killed by the vehicle he was traveling in as a passenger after getting out to open a gate near Philipsburg Saturday morning.
The Montana Highway Patrol said around 6 a.m. Saturday, the 75-year-old man from Churchville, Virginia had exited the vehicle to open a gate after the driver stopped on secondary road 348, near Marshall Creek Road west of Philipsburg.
The driver, a 73-year-old Philipsburg man, hit the gas and ran over the passenger.
The driver stopped shortly after and was uninjured, according to MHP.
