The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office says human remains were discovered near Rimini, about 17 miles southwest of Helena, on Tuesday.
A U.S. Forest Service ranger discovered a human skull in the Minnehaha area around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Search and Rescue personnel performed a grid search in the area and were able to locate more human bones and tissue samples.
The remains have been sent to the Missoula Crime Lab for analysis.
The skull does does not appear to be a child's, but the anthropology department of the University of Montana will need to identify the age and gender.
