BUTTE – REC Silicon is considering selling its facility located just south of Butte, according to a news release on the company’s website.

REC Silicon’s board of directors decided to “consider the divestment” of the Butte plant, located off of Rick Jones Way, and may seek bids for the facility, the news release states. The Butte plant employs nearly 300 and is the world’s largest supplier of Silane gas and other specialty gases for semiconductor, flat panel display, glass and solar applications.

The release states proceeds from the possible sale will be used to retire the company’s debts and to prepare to restart FBR production in Moses Lake, Wash.

The company states the reason for this decision is due to the “on-going trade war” with China.

The board has retained Roth Capital as advisers for this possible sale.
