BIG TIMBER — Authorities are investigating a homicide that occurred at a Big Timber apartment building at 413 West 8th Ave. shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Sheriff Alan Ronneberg of the Sweet Grass County Sheriff's.

“We got a call of a person being shot at a residence here in the city of Big Timber. Officers responded. They were able to take one suspect into custody and there was one person dead at the scene," Ronneberg told Q2 over the phone.

The death was a result of a gunshot wound that happened in the apartment building, Ronneberg said.

One suspect is in custody, and law enforcement will remain in the area for the duration of the primary investigation.

“There is no threat to the public. The suspected shooter is in custody." Ronneberg said. “We are preparing search warrants.”

Identification of the deceased is being held pending notification of next of kin.

“We’re working on it just within our department at the moment. We will conclude with our findings as soon as we can," Ronneberg said.
