MISSOULA – A young child was flown to the hospital early Tuesday morning after being hit by a vehicle in Missoula.

The Montana Highway Patrol reports the accident happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Kona Ranch Road at Sandalwood Court.

Troopers stated the crash occurred when a 6-year-old girl attempted to cross Kona Ranch Road and was struck by a vehicle. They believe that the girl was crossing the road to get to her bus stop.

The bus was approaching the stop but had not activated any warning or stoplights, according to the highway patrol. The vehicle slowed down and attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid hitting the girl.

Troopers stated in a news release that the crash occurred during sunrise and the light levels were still rising. The driver was not hurt in the crash.
