BEAVERHEAD COUNTY — A 12-year-old Canadian girl died in a single-vehicle crash in Beaverhead County late Saturday night, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

MHP said an out-of-state vehicle from Alberta, Canada was traveling northbound on Interstate 15 when it crashed near mile marker 44 around 10:20 p.m. Saturday.

The vehicle was traveling through a construction zone when the driver attempted to merge, went off the right side of the road, and struck a delineator post. The driver then re-entered the roadway and over-corrected, causing the vehicle to roll. MHP said the vehicle came to rest on its top in the roadway.

The girl was thrown from the vehicle; she was transported to Barrett Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The girl was likely not wearing her seatbelt, according to MHP.

A 44-year-old man, 40-year-old woman, and two children ages five and 11 were seatbelted and injured in the crash.

Speed is suspected as a factor. MHP continues to investigate the crash.
