MISSOULA — The Stevensville Civic Club honored Casey Blanchard and Trooper Wade Palmer as its citizens of the year at its annual awards ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.

Blanchard and Palmer were both shot on March 15 -- along with Shelley Hayes and Casey’s mother Julie who both died due to their injuries.

Both Blanchard and Palmer are still recovering in Montana. Blanchard is in Missoula while Palmer continues to recover with his family at his home in Stevensville.

Palmer's wife Lindsey was there to accept the awards. Stevensville Mayor Brandon Dewey was also on hand to the present the award.

He said he couldn't be more proud to be the mayor of a town who would honor both of these heroes.

"The way that our community rallies back behind those issues and celebrates those and brings a positivity to those is pretty special and I'm certainly honored to be apart of this community in the capacity that I am," Dewey said.

Blanchard and Palmer were both chosen by past winners of the award who mayor Dewey says resoundingly chose the pair.
