The USS Billings is leaving Florida ahead of the expected arrival of Hurricane Dorian.

The newly christened littoral class vessel was one of 23 ships ordered to leave Wednesday to relocate to alternate airfields or to be secured in hangars at Norfolk’s Chambers Field and Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach.

The USS Billings was christened in Florida last month.

Hurricane Dorian already left a path of destruction through the Bahamas and is slowly crawling up the Atlantic Coast.
