BILLINGS — Climbers from across the country convened at Steepworld climbing gym in Billings to compete in the Montana Bouldering Championship finals Saturday night.
The top six male and female climbers tackled three routes known as "boulder problems," competing for points.
Bouldering is different from rock climbing. In bouldering the climbers don't use ropes, and only climb about 25-30 feet high.
It was a packed house at Steepworld. About 50 people were in the gym to cheer on the climbers.
“The community is amazing. I’ve met so many people here.” said 14-year-old finalist, and Huntley native Megan Burns.
This is the second time Burns has made it to the finals. She said Climbing is a unique sport that requires a lot of practice on the climbers technique.
“It’s a slow process because it really takes all of your work to get up there," Burns said. "It’s more about strength and mostly technique. As long as you practice, you’ll be fine."
