Salvation Army giving school supplies to Billings kids

BILLINGS — The Billings Salvation Army Corps. will give away school supplies the week of Aug. 12 to kids in need in the Billings area.

The Salvation Army collected about 1600 individual school supplies from its Stuff the Bus event at the heights Walmart on Aug. 3.

People in Billings donated the supplies and $730 in cash donations.

Salvation Army Lieutenant Felicia Pederson wanted to give thanks to those who donated school supplies.

"The people in this community, they love to give. I remember just handing fliers out and talking to people who were so excited when they knew they could help a child in need. So we want to say thank you. Thank you to the Walmart corporation, and thank you for those who responded and came out and gave school supplies to kids in need."

Backpacks were also donated by the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation so kids would have something to put their supplies in.

Families who are interested in picking up supplies can go to the Salvation Army in Billings located at 2100 6th Avenue North.

They will be giving supplies away the week of Aug. 12 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.

The supplies are first come, first serve.

You will have to fill out a document with basic household information, but no ID or other documents are required.
