BILLINGS - Part of a busy street into and out of downtown Billings will be closed starting next week.

South 27th Street will be closed between Montana Avenue and Minnesota Avenue starting Monday.

Montana Rail Link is working on the railroad crossing.

Crews will be digging a trench 80 feet long to help with drainage and replacing some of the street surface.

The work that starts on Monday is expected to finish on Friday, Sept. 27, according to MRL Chief Communication Officer Ross Lane.

The city of Billings public works department says detour signs will be in place to direct traffic to 28th and 29th streets.

This work is not part of the 27th Street Project that starts on Sept. 23.

No street closures will be needed for work that begins at State Street.
