BILLINGS — With a snowstorm expected to hit Billings Wednesday, Schools Superintendent Greg Upham wants to remind families and students of school district 2 cold weather procedures.
Upham said Monday that based on the predicted amount of snow, the heavy snow may cause power issues.
"I wanted to remind all of you of our cold weather procedures," Upham said in a press release. "Please do not leave students at bus stops and make sure students are dressed appropriately. We are entering the cold weather season, and it's time for cold weather protocols. Please be safe as we enter this winter season."
NorthWestern Energy is also preparing for this chill around the corner by preparing equipment and adjusting staff for the quick turn around in weather.
Utility spokeswoman Jo Dee Black said the most recent storm impacted more of north-central Montana and was still an early hit.
"With so many leaves still on the trees, the main concern is that with a lot of snow, trees branches will be broken and damaged. If we need to move our resources from one division to a different division to help out with power outages there, that is exactly what we will do. I heat my home with natural gas or if i have natural gas appliances, I need to be aware of keeping those vents clear of snow so that my furnace and my appliances work. So that my furnace will be keeping me warm at home," Black said.
Black also reminds area residents to contact Northwestern if you see live wires or have branches fall on to your home because of the weather, adding that they have crews working around the clock.
