Update 8:57 p.m. The gas leak has been repaired and Highway 87 has been reopened, according to Lockwood firefighters.

The leak started on the 2800 block of Highway 87 when a homeowner struck a line while digging, Lockwood firefigthers said. Contrary to early reports, the cause was not related to construction at the new Lockwood High School.

The road was closed for about 2.5 hours and reopened around 8:30 p.m.
