St. John’s United will acquire the former Gainan’s property at 502 N. 30th in downtown Billings. This acquisition was made possible through the generous planned gift of the property by the Chuck Gainan and Mick Gainan Families. This partnership supports St. John’s United’s strategic initiative to expand its mission into downtown. The building will be named St. John’s United at Gainan Commons. More information regarding the use of the new space and opening celebrations are scheduled to commence at the 502 N. 30th location on August 13th at 9am.

The iconic downtown Billings building was built by Mick and Chuck Gainan and their mother Betty in 1988. In retirement, Betty continued as a significant part of the business while residing on the St. John’s United Campus. David Trost, President and CEO of St. John’s United, recalls Betty Gainan’s dedication to the family business stating, “I remember one day when I had to give Betty a ride to the office to sign payroll checks as our bus was out of order.” Chuck and Mick remember fondly the extended family at St. John’s.

St. John’s United at Gainan Commons will be many things yet to be determined; however, it will initially house home and community based services such as Medicare Certified Home Health and Hospice Services. Home Health and Hospice staff have been working off site since March at the onset of the Covid-19 emergency. The Staff are extremely appreciative of their new permanent home at Gainan Commons.

St. John’s United is a Montana non-profit human services organization providing care throughout the arch of life from birthparent counseling, adoption, mental health counseling, employment, housing, and healthcare with a mission to provide living opportunities within nurturing environments of hope, dignity and love.
