MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS — A campsite in Yellowstone National Park has been closed after a new fire was discovered Monday east of Yellowstone Lake.
Park officials said in a Tuesday release that the Brimstone Bay campsite 5E4 near the Thoroughfare Trail is closed until further notice.
The half-acre Brimstone Fire was spotted Monday afternoon. It was likely caused by lightning and is burning in a spruce and fir forest. Fire staff will continue to monitor it, park officials said.
The ThorofareTrail remains open, largely because of low fire activity.
The Brimstone Fire is the eighth fire reported in Yellowstone National Park this season. Four of those fires are being actively monitored.
Fire danger is high in the park currently, with no restrictions in place.
