Custer County health officials reported the county's first COVID-19 case Thursday afternoon.

The Custer County/ Miles City Unified Command Team provided no other information on the case, only saying the individual has been instructed to remain isolated until full recovery.

This new case is one of three new cases reported in Montana Thursday afternoon, bringing the state's total to 566 and 61 active cases.

MTN is reporting one fewer total case and one fewer recovered case due to a case in Jefferson County that local health authorities report involved a patient who was not in the state.

Here's the full news release from Custer County/ Miles City Unified Command Team:

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 has been found in a Custer County Montana resident. Although the first case of COVID-19 has recently been confirmed, your Custer County/Miles City Unified Command Team has been working diligently since early March to prepare and plan for this event. Everything that can be done to support and prepare each agency within our County is being done. Our Unified Command Team is continuing to guide the process with the implementation of the EMERGENCY OPERATING PLAN (EOP) under the Biological Incident Hazard Response. Emergency response teams, hospital, first responders and other public agencies are unified in our effort to combat this virus.

The individual has been instructed to remain isolated, until he/she has fully recovered.

The Custer County/Miles City Unified Command Team is not releasing any information about the confirmed case, to protect his/her privacy in keeping with the federal law.

We are working to identify all close contacts of this individual and will interview him/her to find out the places he/she’s gone in the past two weeks.

All of the preventative measures that have been put in place over the past weeks take on new importance now that we know COVID-19 is in our community:

· Stay home – Only to leave your house for essential trips.
· If you have traveled out of the State - self-quarantine for 14 days.
· Maintain 6 feet of distance from other people.

Please continue to social distance and shelter in place and follow all current CDC guidelines.
