BILLINGS — It is still a few days before Thanksgiving, but thanks to the Knights of Columbus, some Christmas trees have already arrived in Billings.
The trucks arrived at Catholic middle school St. Pius X, from Sand Point Idaho Sunday afternoon.
Students from Central High School help unload the trees every year.
The Christmas tree lot at St. Pius started 47 years ago.
The trees are sold at St. Pius on Broadwater and St. Bernard's Catholic Church in the Heights.
The Knights of Columbus has run it for about 17 years and gives the students a chance for community service.
Central Principal Shel Hanser passed on some good lessons to the students.
“Helping your neighbor, that's really what life is about,” said Bo Hakert, student body president at Central. “It's not about being self-centered. Mr Hanser talks about being world class, helping the community.
“The head of Billings Central comes in and gets 25-35 kids here, 25-35 kids to St. Bernard’s,” said Lou Adler, the Knights’ Christmas tree chairman. “They unloaded that first truck in 35 minutes, a full truck-load of 800 trees were unloaded.”
The Knights of Columbus donates the money from tree sales to 15 charities.
