A Billings man has been identified as the person who fell into the Boulder River near the Natural Bridge Falls and disappeared.
Joseph Crawford, 48, was hiking Sunday in the Natural Bridge Falls area south of Big Timber when he walked off the trail toward the river, slipped and fell 50 to 60 feet into the water, the Sweet Grass County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
Crawford was swept downstream, passing through the falls and into the canyon below. His body has not been found despite search efforts that continued through 5 p.m. Monday. He is presumed dead.
The sheriff's office said "passive search efforts" will continue through the coming weeks.
