BILLINGS- Billings leaders met Wednesday to break ground on the newest park in Billings, Centennial Park.
Billings Mayor Bill Cole said great cities have great parks, and Billings is in need of more.
Leaders dug in their shovels at the park’s location on 32nd Street West between Central and Broadwater avenues.
Cole said Billings has a huge park deficit, and the last formal parking was built 30 years ago.
Centennial Park has been in the works for years, said Cole.
“This is going to be a real park. It’s been here for almost 50 years, and we’ve been driving by it for decades. Well, finally something is happening, and it’s going to be great,” he said.
The park will feature a dog park, ballpark, pickleball courts and bathrooms.
The first phase of the park is set to open in a year.
