BILLINGS- A male scooter rider taken by ambulance to a local emergency room Friday afternoon after crashing his bike on the 1300 block of Broadwater Avenue.
A Billings police officer said the rider flew over the handlebars of the scooter after apparently braking too hard in the westbound lane. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The call came at 3:43 p.m.
Billings police said on Twitter that the man suffered a head injury. He was awake and talking when loaded in the ambulance. He was not wearing a helmet.
The westbound traffic on Broadwater was briefly detoured.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Calvin Jimmerson came upon the accident while off-duty and tweeted a safety tip for other riders.
I came upon a scooter crash today while off duty. This 80 degree weather is awesome for riding, but please wear a helmet and ride defensively. #ProtectYourNoggin
