LAUREL – A Laurel school resource officer is on administrative leave pending an investigation into alleged sexual contact with a student.

Laurel Police Chief Rick Musson said the city administrator was tasked with leading the internal investigation by Laurel Mayor Tom Nelson.

On Monday afternoon, Laurel Schools Superintendent Linda Filpula released a statement that she had asked for the suspension Friday.

“On Friday, October 12, 2018, I requested the Laurel Police Department suspend one of the District’s school resource officers from duty at school buildings pending the Department’s investigation into the officer’s alleged misconduct.  Once the investigation being conducted by the Department is completed, the School District intends to work with the Department regarding any further action that must taken to preserve student and staff safety. The School District will provide further updates when appropriate,” Filpula said in the statemtn.
