Federal, state, and local law enforcement officials gathered in Billings Monday to align on crime trends affecting communities across Montana.

Representatives from the ATF, FBI, State, City, and County agencies met at The Northern Hotel to share intelligence and coordinate efforts on the crime patterns they are seeing in Billings and statewide.
Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen said Billings was chosen as the meeting location because it allows the greatest number of officials to gather in one place.
"It's (crime) not something that we're seeing coming. It's been here for a while. So we're responding. Numbers are down, we're trending downward now, but there's still work to do," Knudsen said.
Law enforcement presence in Billings is also growing. The Billings FBI field office, which opened in December 2025, has tripled the number of agents working out of the office.
