One man was arrested Monday afternoon after fleeing police and holing up in his home for several hours, Sidney police said in a news release.
Scott Robert Sheehan, 53 of Sidney, had been identified as a suspect in an Aug. 12 bomb threat at the Sidney office of Child and Family Service, according to police.
Police attempted to pull him over around 4:49 p.m., but he fled to his residence on the 400 block of Holly Avenue, police said. After several hours of negotiation, Sheenah surrendered and was arrested, police said. He is in the custody of Montana Parole and Probation.
The Aug. 12 bomb threat was a hoax, although the Child and Family Service office, which falls under the umbrella of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, was evacuated. A bomb-detecting K9 and handler were deployed, and units from the Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls were dispatched to the scene.
(original report) Sidney police are asking the public to avoid an area in the southeast part of town as law enfrocement conduct a large-scale investigation.
The police department posted on social media that an active situation in the area of Fifth Street Southeast and Sixth Street Southeast was resolved Monday afternoon, but law enforcement are remaining on scene to investigate.
Residents were advised to shelter in place, but that advisory was lifted.
Police did not give details on the incident.
