Update 5:00 p.m.

Residents in the area of Wednesday's fatal shooting, such as James Dust, were rattled by the incident. Dust said he heard the gunfire just down the road from his home.

"I heard about, I'd say, about eight to 10 gunshots," Dust said. "I was hoping it wasn't at an individual or a household."

Big Horn County Sheriff's office confirmed that it was a deadly shooting, with one person killed and two others injured. Dust said he was surprised when he heard what happened.

"I didn't think it was that serious last night, but as soon as I woke up and found out it was that serious, it was a shocker," Dust said Wednesday afternoon.

Dust said that while gunfire isn't uncommon in that area, it's sad to see it result in violence.

"I didn't really think anything of it because the previous years, we've had some gunshots but with the investigation nobody was injured," Dust said. "To know that he passed away, you know, the gun violence should stop."
