WYOMING – Troopers arrested two people near Cheyenne for allegedly transporting 114 pounds of marijuana, valued at $285,000, through the state of Wyoming on Saturday.
Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers arrested Ngoc Thi Bich Pham, 39, and her passenger Hung Minh Nguyen, 45, both of Renton, Wash., following a traffic stop on Interstate 80.
According to officials, the arrests happened after Pham stopped at the road closure gate asking troopers why the road was closed. The road was closed eastbound of Cheyenne to the state line due to hazardous road conditions in Nebraska.
Troopers noticed a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle and noticed a blanket covering several lodge suitcases on the rear seat.
After a search of the vehicle, troopers found 108 clear plastic packages containing what appeared to be marijuana.
A large backpack, the press release stated, was found with evidence indicating "a large money laundering enterprise."
Both were transported to the Laramie County Detention Center and booked on felony drug charges.
