Health officials in Roosevelt County are busy dealing with a spike of new COVID-19 cases.

According to the official Montana COVID website, Roosevelt County reported 56 new cases as of Thursday morning, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 269. Of those, 205 cases are considered active, 63 are listed as recovered, and one person has died.

Officials said they're looking into a number of factors that could be behind the increase.

Wolf Point schools closed briefly earlier this month for cleaning following a positive case of a student. Recently, both Malta and Fairfield public schools canceled games scheduled at Wolf Point after consulting with public health officials.

Roosevelt County, with a population of about 11,000 people, now has fourth-highest number of cases in the state, behind the much more populated counties of Yellowstone, Flathead, and Cascade.
