A Big Horn County health official said in a Monday morning press release the county added five new cases on Sunday, not 10 as reported by the state. The official said they are working to reconcile the difference with state officials.

Update: A Big Horn County health official said late Monday morning that they confirmed their new case number is correct at five. According to the health official, the state inadvertently double-counted some cases over the weekend. The different case number has not been updated on the state website.

The total number of cumulative cases statewide stands at 740. MTN is reporting one fewer total case and one fewer recovered case due to a case in Jefferson County that local health authorities report involved a patient who was not in the state.

The state conducted 948 new tests for a total of 71,305 test. There are 15 current hospitalizations as of Monday. There are a reported 171 active cases with 548 people listed as recovered.

The number of deaths has increased by one to 21, although health officials have not announced where that death occurred. The tracking map indicates Yellowstone County has four COVID-19 related deaths, an increase of one since the prior 24-hour reporting period.

Update: Yellowstone County released this statement late Monday morning:

With deep sorrow, RiverStone Health, Yellowstone County’s public health department, has reported the fourth death of a Yellowstone County resident from complications due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. This is the 21st Montanan to die from COVID-19.

The death occurred on Saturday, June 20. The man, in his 60s, died in a Yellowstone County hospital. To protect the privacy of the individual and family members, RiverStone Health will not release further information about the death.

“We extend our wish for peace and comfort to family and friends of this man as they grieve the loss of their loved one,” said John Felton, Yellowstone County Health Officer and President and CEO of RiverStone Health. “This death serves as a tragic reminder about the seriousness of COVID-19. In the last 5 days, 16 Yellowstone County residents have tested positive for the disease. As case counts continue to rise in Yellowstone County and across the state, each of us must continue to be vigilant in taking measures to prevent COVID-19.”

RiverStone Health emphasizes the importance of practicing disease prevention measures and following recommendations for the health and safety of all Montanans. This includes:

  • Washing your hands frequently,
  • Maintaining physical distance of at least 6 feet,
  • Wearing a mask when physical distancing isn’t possible, and
  • Staying home when you are sick.

To date, 125 Yellowstone County residents have been infected with COVID-19.
