MAUI, Hawaii — A 23-year-old from Colorado was arrested in Hawaii Saturday after she allegedly violated the state’s rules and orders regarding quarantining for visitors.

On Saturday around 2:30 a.m., 23-year-old Tara Trunfio of Colorado was arrested by the Maui Police Department on two counts of violating rules and orders.

Based on the investigation, Trunfio arrived in Maui and acknowledged the Emergency Proclamations in the state and city, which require travelers to stay in quarantine for 14 days, according to the police department. Despite this, she failed to comply.

After a bulletin was issued for her arrest, police were dispatched to a home in Kula around 1:40 a.m. Saturday regarding a woman — who was later identified as Trunfio — who refused to leave the property, according to police.

She was then arrested. Her bail was set at $4,000.

The Maui Police Department said it will continue to enforce the rules and orders set forth by the governor of the State of Hawaii, mayor of Maui County, and Hawaii Revised Statutes.
