Big Horn County health officials reported Thursday the county's 59th COVID-19-related death.
It was a man in his 80s who had not been in the hospital before he died Thursday.
Big Horn now has 11 COVID-related deaths in December and a fatality rate of 2.8 percent (59 deaths out of 2,096 total cases). The death rate for those 70 years and older is 19.3 percent (33 deaths out of 171 cases) and 29 percent for men aged 70 and older (20 deaths out of 69 cases).
Big Horn also added seven new COVID-19 cases Thursday, bringing total active cases to 127. Two patients likely contracted the virus through community spread, while the other five were traced by public health workers to previously known cases.
