Sometimes young people need a reminder of their importance.

Native American students in the area brought their tribal cultures together at Senior High School ion Saturday.

The “Honoring Our Youth PowWow” is an annual School District 2 event.

The district’s Indian Education staff guides the Billings Students Tribal Council in putting on the Powwow.

Any high school student in Billngs and around the state may attend and the powow draws from several tribes.

“We bring all of our cultures into one so it creates this big family of ours,” said Shanail Naylor, a Skyview High School junior and council vice chair. “It’s pretty amazing to see what every culture is going to bring and every student is going to have something to say and how they’re going to present it in their own way.”

“We want to bring everybody together,” said Dillon Wilson, a West High Senior and council chair. “Just because you’re from a different tribe doesn’t mean you’re not  part of the family, we want a big group of different people, just to show we’re with each other, we’re not against each other.”

The high school powwow rotates among Senior,West and Skyview.
