Lightening sparks seven new fires in NW Montana

LIBBY – Lightning activity sparked seven new fires near the Kootenai National Forest on Saturday, Aug. 11th. 

According to a Facebook post from the Kootenai National Forest, four new lightning fires were confirmed just east (approximately 1 mile ) of the Tenmile Fire. Fire crews and equipment are nearby and these new starts are being assessed by firefighters. These four are located in Rexford/ Fortine Ranger District Fire.

Three new fires were confirmed at 4:30 PM in the Libby District Fire. The Tom, Gold Hill, and North Gold Hill fires have resources on scene.

The current size of the fires range from .1- 4 acres
