BILLINGS- The Billings School District 2 board has appointed a new member to fill a vacant seat.
Brian Yates, director of operations for the Anderson Management Group (the Montana company that operates Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants), was appointed by unanimous vote, board Chairwoman Greta Besch Moen said Wednesday.
Yates fills the seat vacated by Joe Oravecz, a former administrator at MSU-Billings.
Yates was present at a Tuesday school board meeting to answer questions from board members.
Yates noted in his trustee application that he did not have a background in education, but felt compelled to get involved. He said he believes his work with budgeting and management will be useful in the position.
“We are grateful to him for his willingness to volunteer, eagerness to learn about our district, and his passionate support of education in Billings,” said Greta Besch Moen, the chair of the school board.
Yates will fill the position until the next scheduled trustee election in May 2019, at which point he will have to run for election. If elected, Yates would serve a three-year term.
Yates and his wife have three children.
