Q2 Weather: Sunday showers give way to hot week

Posted

A  slight chance of some evening showers and scattered storms remains in the forecast for tonight but today will be the last day we can say that for the foreseeable future.

Cloud cover and cool air in the mid levels of the atmosphere has held temperatures down into the 70s today here in Billings, but that too will change somewhat dramatically over the course of this week.

A ridge will build into the western part of the state that will clear skies and bring warm winds to go along with the sunshine.

Temperatures will climb over the course of the week to well above seasonal by the end of the week.

The warm up starts tomorrow with plenty of sunshine and temperatures jumping back up into the mid 80s. I have us down for 84 here in Billings. The warm up will be slightly delayed to our east as some clouds could linger along the Montana border with the Dakotas.

On to my obligatory reminder that even as the summer wears on the UV threat will still be high in the coming days so put sunscreen on if you are going to be outside and remember to hydrate.

As temperatures heat up relative humidity values will drop off, so take care in terms of any potential fire threats. With the forecast for this week and the fire starts we have had here in Montana this week I would not be surprised to see fire restrictions put in place in the near future.
