BILLINGS – A Big Horn County man charged with killing his adopted 4-year-old daughter made his first court appearance Wednesday.

Bridger Boyd, 34, appeared by video in Yellowstone County Justice Court on charges of deliberate homicide and aggravated assault.

Court records state that staff at Big Horn Hospital alerted authorities after Boyd and his wife, Jennifer, brought the unresponsive girl in Monday with severe bruising.

Concerned about the severity of the girl’s injuries, Big Horn County sheriff’s deputies first questioned Jennifer Boyd, who said her husband had slammed the girl’s head into a wall and then threw her on the floor after the little girl had argued with her mother during dinner, prosecutors said.

Later, under further questioning, Bridger Boyd told investigators he had caused the girl’s injuries including bruising on her legs, prosecutors state.

The girl was brought to St. Vincent Health Care in Billings,  where she died Monday evening.

Boyd remains jailed on a $1 million dollar bond tonight. If convicted, he faces a possibility of the death penalty or life in prison.

He’s expected to appear in Big Horn County for his arraignment.

The Boyds run a state licensed foster care home. All other children in their care have been removed and reassigned.
