HELENA – Jefferson County Sheriff Craig Doolittle has identified Trystan James Stratton as the child who died in an ATV crash on Sunday.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the 9-year-old boy was driving when he drifted to the right side of the road, overcorrected, and then rolled the ATV on to its side, throwing him.

The MHP, Boulder Fire and Ambulance, ranch hands, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office all responded.

MHP Sgt. Dave Oliverson said the boy was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet.

Oliverson added that vehicles like ATVs and side-by-sides can only be driven by people with a legal license. A helmet and seatbelt must also be worn when operating.
