Deer Lodge, Kalispell awarded federal funding for housing complexes

Posted

DEER LODGE – Deer Lodge is getting some federal funding to help build an affordable housing complex in the city.

The Montana Housing at the Department of Commerce is allocating almost $4 million in federal housing credit to Helena’s GL Development to help build a 24-unit apartment complex for families in Deer Lodge.

The project will also result in more than 50 new jobs.

“Building this property means that 24 families or individuals will now have access to an affordable home,” Montana Department of Commerce Director Pam Haxby-Cote said. “These homes will strengthen the community of Deer Lodge and ensure more Montanans can create their own economic opportunity.”

The 2018 appropriations bill recently passed by Congress and signed by the President included an increase in housing credit authority of 12.5%, allowing Montana Housing the ability to fund one additional project that previously applied for the 2018 housing credits.

The Cottonwood Creek Apartments in Deer Lodge join five other housing credit awards, including one project in the Flathead.

Courtyard Apartments in Kalispell received $4.5 million for a 32-unit acquisition rehabilitation project for families. The total project investment of $4.9 million and will create 58 jobs.
