Congressman Greg Gianforte of Montana released a statement in praise of fellow Republican Paul Ryan following news he was stepping down as Speaker of the House:
“Paul Ryan did not seek the speakership, but he stepped up to assume the role at a critical moment. A selfless public servant, Speaker Ryan has guided the House of Representatives to substantial conservative accomplishments, including the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which is helping hardworking Montanans. Speaker Ryan is a principled conservative and a deeply committed family man. I am grateful for his service to our country and will miss his thoughtful leadership," Gianforte said in a statement.
Ryan announced to colleagues Wednesday; that he would not seek re-election to his Wisconsin U.S. House seat in November and give up the speaker role he’s held since 2015.
