The music festival Summerfest is investigating after a performer, Lizzo, said a security guard “tackled and attacked” her team after a performance in Milwaukee on Thursday night.
The rising star tweeted about the incident, saying a guard “slapped and manhandled my hair stylist and stylist.”
Later, she tweeted that “racism and bigotry don’t care if you’re a headliner” and that she would be filing a complaint against a guard.
The tweets were met with an outpouring of comments from fans praising Lizzo’s performance and calling for people who were in the audience to post videos of the incident.
Summerfest said in a statement to CNN, “We do not tolerate racism in any form. We will conduct a thorough investigation.”
It also said that its staff is working to protect performers and fans and that challenges are expected to be handled “professionally and respectfully,” promising to take action if those standards are not met.
When asked about the investigation and the security guard, Summerfest did not give any additional information.
The festival tweeted the same statement Thursday night.
Summerfest is an annual festival that features both big headliners and local artists.
