BILLINGS — The Prairie Handspinners Guild hosted their Fourth Annual Fiber Festival Saturday at the Billings Shrine Auditorium.
The event fills some of the demand for people who want to learn more about working with and creating clothes made with wool.
Vendors from all over Montana and Wyoming had raw wool, yarn, handmade wool products, fiber accessories and equipment available.
There were several workshops in various fiber arts available, as well as a fiber "petting zoo" and a sheep shearing demonstration.
The festival showed the entire process of making clothes, from spinning wool to the finished product.
"It's really been a neat opportunity for lots of people who love fiber to come together and really have a place," said Heather Johnson, Prairie Handspinners Chair.
"They like the process and they like the fact that it's natural," she said. "There's no chemicals involved in it. It was a way of life in the past and we're really lucky we don't have to do it now. We just love to do it."
The Prairie Handspinners meet once a month at the Yellowstone Art Museum's Visible Vault and work at several events throughout the year, including SummerFair and the Huntley Threshing Bee.
